Powers

Overcoming the powers of this world.

Something to read

For to this you have been called, because Christ also suffered for you, leaving you an example, so that you should follow in his steps.

- 1 Peter 2:21, from full reading 1 Peter 2: 19-25.

Something to think about

As you look out into the world, you can see many things which speak of the depths of human suffering and pain.

As Christians, the call to take up the cross is clear, and yet it can be hard when we witness others carrying crosses which at times seem too heavy for them. You may, at times, feel there is little you can do to change the way the world is, the path it appears to be on, or the suffering that human beings experience.

Faced with the enormity of the world’s suffering, the place to turn for both inspiration and strength is the life of Jesus Christ. His message, his Gospel, his life is an example in whose steps we should follow. If meditating on the life and message of Jesus Christ does nothing else for us but remind us that the powers of this world are overcome only by love and mercy, it will have done everything for us.

Something to do

Look for a campaign that you can support today.

Something to pray

Lord Jesus Christ, you were not overcome by the principalities and powers of this world, and through your grace neither shall we be overcome by those same powers. Keep me close to you, and give me a heart like yours.

Amen
